The Garand Group seeks to provide a molecular-level understanding of complex structures, non-covalent interactions and chemical reaction mechanisms. They employ a unique combination of mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy to probe the relevant complexes, clusters, and reaction intermediates involved in a broad array of chemical systems. Recent focus areas include catalysis for solar fuels production, solvent effects on biomolecules conformations, and organic chromophores for photocatalysis and electroluminescence. The group is also actively involved in the development of new mass spectrometry instrumentation with enhanced spectroscopic capabilities.
