As part of the fire safety upgrade of the existing chemistry building complex, fire doors will be installed in the Mathews / Daniels elevator lobby in order to provide a fire barrier between these two wings of the building. Construction will begin on Mon Nov 30 and continue through the month of Dec. Construction teams will be working on multiple floors at the same time. If you need to cross between Mathews and Daniels wings, there may be times when you need to go up or down 1-2 floors to get through. These circumstances may disrupt the sequence of ‘up’ and ‘down’ stairwells. If you need to use a stairwell in the ‘wrong’ direction, step aside on a landing if you encounter another individual moving in the opposite direction.
The fire doors are an important safety measure, in their own right, and they allow the department to move closer to compliance with current regulations concerning the Maximum Allowable Quantities of hazardous materials stored on each floor.
