The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently selected Etienne Garand, assistant professor of chemistry at UW-Madison, for an Office of Science Early Career Research Award. Through a peer review process, Garand’s proposal, “Probing Chromophore Energetics and Couplings for Singlet Fission in Solar Cell Applications,” was one of 61 selected for funding from among 770 research projects. The goal of the project is to provide a molecular-level understanding of paths for improving alternative sources of energy, including improving the efficiency of solar cells.
