Char Horsfall receives 2025 Chemistry Department Staff Award

Char Horsfall, Assistant Department Manager

Char Horsfall was named the 2025 winner of the Chemistry Department Staff Award at the April 8, 2025 Department Meeting. Liana Lamont and Rosemary Wonnell of the Department of Chemistry’s Staff Committee presented the award. “Char is a tireless advocate for the education, research, and administrative missions of our department,” stated Department Chair Sam Gellman.

Char received six separate nominations for the award. The narratives outlined Char’s work ethic and many achievements over the past year:

  • One of Char’s major contributions over the past year has involved advocating for the department needs, values, and interests during the administrative restructuring by the College of Letters & Science. Char’s efforts are helping us adapt to the Workday transition and integrate new A.R.T. colleagues into our team.
  • In response to recent personnel shortages within the department, Char took on the duties of an accountant and a grants management specialist, which required countless hours of her time.
  • Char is a treasured resource to all members of the large Chemistry community. Recently, for example, when a grad student was in crisis, Char worked closely with the PI and L&S to secure tuition remission and maintain the student’s benefits.
  • Char has excellent communication and organizational skills. She is proactive and a calm, practical problem solver. Char exemplifies the highest standards of integrity, respect, and transparency. She is a fantastic teammate and mentor. Char is a sterling individual who is approachable and draws the best from everyone around her.
