The Brunold Group investigates the geometric and electronic structures, which dictate the chemical reactivity, of metal centers in proteins and cofactors through combined spectroscopic and computational studies of key enzymatic states and synthetic inorganic model complexes. By using a combined spectroscopic/computational/kinetics/structural approach, they can selectively probe the properties of catalytically active metal centers in proteins and model complexes and explore the nature of reaction intermediates.
