Construction Update 04/13/2020

New Tower. In the sub-basement the large lecture rooms are taking shape with concrete poured for some of the tiers of seats. Shoring is in place for the lower part of the monumental staircase that will enable access to the lecture rooms, though the steps themselves have not yet been poured.

Building Construction

Last week, at the top of the building, the west side of the ninth floor was poured. The ninth floor is partly roof and partly mechanical space. Lower down, windows have been installed in the first-floor Learning Studio and in parts of the fourth floor.

Interior Building Construction

Concrete block exterior walls that will later be faced with more decorative material have been built on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors. Our new tower is beginning to be enclosed and it makes its presence felt along University Avenue.

Building Construction

Chemistry Learning Center. The new CLC quarters in the Medical Sciences Center are nearly complete. Teaching rooms have painted walls, the photocopy/break room has cabinets installed, and glass and doors have been installed in offices. In some of the teaching rooms heating units are still being installed and floors and ceilings still remain to be finished, but everything is on schedule for completion later this month. New furniture will be installed after completion but before mid-May.

Interior Building Construction

Fire Protection. Installation of fire sprinklers on the third floor of Daniels begins this week. When the third floor of Daniels is complete the installation crew will begin installing riser pipes in the stairwells. They move to the basement of Mathews on May 4.

This information is up to date as of Friday afternoon. Email bulletins will be provided as needed.
