Construction Update 07/01/2019

New Tower.  A second set of trusses, each weighing about 73,500 pounds, has been successfully installed. These trusses span the 250-seat lecture room and will support the weight of eight stories of the northeast corner of the building, including the advanced synthesis lab on the sixth floor, the undergraduate research projects lab on the seventh floor and an instrumentation center on the eighth floor. Installation of the trusses is another major step in progress toward completion of our new facility.

Starting at 7 pm on Friday and ending Sunday morning at 9:30 am, the 350-ton mobile crane was brought to the site, University Avenue was reduced to two lanes, and Mills Street was closed. Trusses were brought to the site on flatbed trucks early Saturday morning and by 10:45 am all three were in place. The photos that follow tell the story.
