Construction Update 3/18/2019

Partial shutdown of electrical power systems in the chemistry complex – now confirmed for Tues Mar 19th from 2:00 am until 12:00 noon.

New information regarding expanded scope of work:  in addition to the power shutdown, the UW Plumbing Shop will conduct an important maintenance repair of cold water supply, which requires a complete shut-down of the cold water supply in the Daniels building.  This shutdown will affect all cold water taps in fume hoods, lab sinks, restrooms (sinks and toilets), etc.  The RO-DI water system in Daniels / Mathews will also be offline.

Because the shutdown affects the ventilation system, there are safety implications for building occupants and for construction workers.

The following instructions pertain to all occupants of the chemistry complex (Shain, Mathews, Daniels):

  1. As of 9:00 pm on Mon Mar 18th, all chemical vessels must be capped / closed / sealed.  No reactions may be conducted.  No discharge of vapors in fume hoods or in laboratories.  Fume hood sashes closed.  No tap water flowing in any equipment or apparatus.
  2. Each group’s Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) must confirm to Jeff Nielsen, by email, that their research group is compliant with these requirements, no later than 9:00 pm on Monday.
  3. Everyone must be out of the building complex by 9:00 pm on Mon Mar 18th.
  4. You may not reenter the building complex until you have been notified that it is OK to do so.

If all goes according to plan, the building complex will be reopened at 12:00 noon on Tue Mar 19th.

This information is up-to-date as of Monday afternoon. Email bulletins will be provided as needed.
