Chemical & Engineering News Recognizes Professors’ Startup Company

Madison-based company Silatronix is among Chemical & Engineering News’ ‘10 ‘Start-ups to Watch’ for 2016. Professor Robert Hamers and Professor Emeritus Robert West founded the company in 2007 to develop better organosilicon solvents for batteries. C&EN reports that the company now has developed its third generation of compounds, which are being tested for use in consumer products. If the tests prove successful, the new materials might soon be found in longer-lasting and safer lithium ion batteries in electronics such as mobile devices and laptops.
