The 2015 Wisconsin Science Festival will be held Oct. 22-25 at the Discovery Building, 330 N. Orchard Street, as well as at various locations across campus and throughout the state.
Professor Bassam Shakhashiri and the Wisconsin Initiative for Science Literacy will close out the festival with the “Science is Fun Extravaganza” on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Discovery Building. Experience spectacular demonstrations, charming vocal performances, dynamic flamenco dancing, and more at this grand finale.
As part of “Eureka! Invention and the Process of Discovery,” Professor Laura Kiessling will discuss the process of invention with other UW-Madison inventors from the STEM disciplines.
The Discovery Expo allows visitors to get up close and personal with science presentations at more than 20 different stations at the Discovery Building. Check out life from inside a bubble, meet slithering new friends, or experience the forces of physics —each day brings something new and exciting.
Department of Chemistry staff and students will lead several stations and demonstrations at the Discovery Expo:
- Using his portable glassblowing cart, Master Scientific Glassblower Tracy Drier will wow visitors with glassblowing demonstrations.
- The Institute for Chemical Education will offer hands-on science activities for kids of all ages.
- Jin group graduate student Lianna Dang will introduce visitors to the nanoworld using nano-scale structures and microscopes.
- Nathanson group graduate student Wen-Tsung Huang will help kids explore the science of water and bubbles.
