Two Alumni Among 2015 ACS Fellows

Two UW-Madison Department of Chemistry alumni are among the 2015 class of American Chemical Society Fellows. The fellows program recognizes ACS members for “outstanding achievements in and contributions to science, the profession, and the Society.”

Brian Coppola (Ph.D. ‘84, Trost)
A professor at the University of Michigan, Coppola is recognized for his pioneering work in “the integration of instructional development with a multi-generational program for future faculty education which has transformed the departmental culture for work in discipline-centered chemistry education.”

 

Fleming

Steven Fleming (Ph.D. ‘84, Zimmerman)
Fleming is a professor of chemistry instruction and learning at Temple University. He is honored for his work with photochemical reactions; co-authoring Organic Chemistry, leading the development of teaching tools Organic Reaction Animations and Bio-Organic Reaction Animations, and advising 118 students in undergraduate research projects.
