Mike McCoy, a 2nd-year graduate student in the Hamers group, suffered a heart attack while jogging on Tuesday morning, and died Saturday. A memorial service was held in the Department on Sunday. We extend our condolences to Mike’s family, Bill, Sue and Chris McCoy, and to the many friends Mike had in the Chemistry Department and beyond. To honor Mike, we are accepting donations for a memorial fund to be used to recognize students in the Materials Chemistry program who best exemplified Mike’s love of life, his love of people, and his love of chemistry. Donations may be made to Dennis Reece in the administrative office; checks should be made out to “UW Foundation”, with “Mike McCoy Fund” on the memo line.
