Mission Statement
Founded in 2020, Graduate Women in Chemistry (WIC) is an organization dedicated to elevating the voices and issues associated with being women in chemistry. Everybody is welcome in our committees and events. Our programming involves four separate branches of action: community building, outreach, promoting equity and inclusion in our department, and providing a platform to amplify the research of women in chemistry.
Community Building
WIC Coffee Hour (Monthly)
• Provide space for women-centered departmental discussion and sharing of experiences.
• Facilitate connections among department and fostered awareness for allies.
Hold other social events (ie. hiking, social hour at the Terrace, holiday party, end-of-semester destresser) to deepen connections in the community.
Equity and Inclusion
Create and host events centered on conversations around Gender Equity and Inclusivity.
Outreach
Organize and participate in affinity group recruiting for prospective and incoming graduate students.
Assist in community outreach (ie. give tours of Chemistry Building to Girl Scouts)
Research
Invite and facilitate seminar speakers from different paths in chemistry (ie. Organic Reactions event).
Organize panels for faculty and students to reflect and give advice about their career/research/graduate school journeys.
