Title: The Road from Natural Product Synthesis to Prodrug Design
Abstract: This seminar will describe the evolution of a program that was rooted in natural product synthesis to a program that focuses on cell line specific toxicity. Syntheses of the pederin family of natural products inspired the development of a new method that proved to be useful for drug delivery. Advances in this project delivered new boron-containing nucleotide and cytotoxin prodrugs that are released in oxidatively stressed environments such as cancer cells. New directions will be outlined for using oxidative stress to generate, rather than release, critical functional groups for drug function.
