Title: Getting Student Feedback: How are They “Hearing” Your Epistemological Messages about How to Learn the Material?
Description: In my Short Course last May, I talked about “epistemological messages”—the explicit and implicit messages we as instructors send to students about how they should approach learning the material in our courses, including how they should approach homework and study for exams. Students, however, don’t always “hear” our messages in the ways we intend. This Short Course addresses how we as instructors, within the constraints posed by limited time and large class sizes, can gather information about how students are hearing our epistemological messages, and how we can adjust our messaging (if needed) in response.
