Professor Jack Simons is the Winner of the 2013-14 Hirschfelder Prize
We're pleased to announce that the winner of the 2013-14 Hirschfelder Prize is Professor Jack Simons from the University of Utah. Jack has made seminal contributions to a number of fields including electronic structure methods, the stability of negative ions, and most recently, mass spectrometry. Jack received his PhD from our department, and is a champion of theoretical chemistry education in Telluride and around the world.   He will visit Madison Oct 7-9, 2013 (please save the dates!), and will present three talks. Congratulations Jack!!

The Greater University Tutoring Service (GUTS) is hiring for the 2013-14 academic year!
GUTS invites UW-Madison students to apply to become a member of a dynamic, diverse staff committed to helping students with their academic needs. GUTS has served students on the UW-Madison campus since 1974 by facilitating free, volunteer tutoring services in academic subjects, conversational English and foreign languages, and study skills. GUTS offers a professional, fun and educational environment in which to develop skills in organization, marketing and outreach, leadership, and student services.
GUTS will host two information sessions for prospective applicants on February 11, 2013 at 6pm and February 21, 2013 at 5pm in Room #3118 in the Student Activity Center. Applicants are highly encouraged to attend one of these sessions to learn about GUTS programs and to ask questions to current staff.
Applications should include a resume, a cover letter, and two references indicating relevant experience and specific interest in GUTS and its programs. We strongly encourage you to review your resume with the career services of your school. Completed applications are due by March 8, 2013. Chemistry - Augustana College invites applications for two, 1-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions in General Chemistry to begin with the 2013-2014 academic year. Teaching duties would include General Chemistry lecture and lab. The candidate must have earned a Master's or Ph.D. (or be ABD) in Chemistry or a related field. Augustana is on a trimester calendar with an annual teaching load of 24 credits over three terms.
