POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS AND/OR JOBS
********************

Spelman College has a postdoctoral position available for students intending a career in Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs). The position is a combination of research and teaching. The research would be with Peter Chen. His research program involves two different directions. The first is developing new coherent multidimensional spectroscopic techniques for studying gas phase molecules.  These techniques can produce two-dimensional patterns that make it relatively easy to assign rotationally resolved peaks.  For example, these patterns automatically sort peaks by quantum number, selection rule, species, etc.  The patterns are useful for studying systems where congestion problems would otherwise obscure the patterns needed to analyze and interpret high resolution spectra. See http://chenresearchgroup.weebly.com/ for more details. The second is developing a LIDAR system (LIght Detection and Ranging). It is similar to RADAR but uses infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light waves to study the atmosphere by transmitting pulses of laser light into the atmosphere and detecting the backscattered light. It will be used for atmospheric studies that identify the nature of atmospheric gases, aerosols, and particulates and their distributions throughout the atmosphere. See: http://spelmanlidarproject.weebly.com/ for more details.
