Danny Fredrickson Receives a US Department of Energy Early Career Award

We are pleased to announce that Danny Fredrickson is the recipient of a US Department of Energy Early Career Award for his proposed work on "Chemical Frustration: A Design for the Discovery of New Complex Alloy and Intermetallic Phases".  According to DOE, the Early Career Awards "...are intended to  bolster the nation's scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional researchers during the crucial early career years, when many scientists do their most formative work". The award includes a 5-year research grant from the Dept. of Energy Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES). A press release is available on the DOE web site at: http://www.science.doe.gov/SC-2/Office%20of%20Science%20Early%20Career%2... ectees.pdf. Chemistry Cookie Contest Winners

Just a quick note to thank everyone who baked for the cookie contest, and to all of our judges for tasting the delicious creations! We had over 100 people attend, so thanks for making this event a success!
I wanted to formally congratulate our victors:
For the cookie category, our winner was Jessica Hoover of the Stahl group for her fancy chocolate orange cookies.
For the "other baked goods" category, the winner was Kristin Briney of the Crim group for her amazing mini cupcake periodic table.
We hope everyone is already thinking of amazing recipes to bring to next year's event! Thanks again, Eugenia Turov- GSFLC co-chair.
