Majoring in Chemistry

Undergraduates in Chemistry 109 work with cobalt and copper complexes

The chemistry major within the College of Letters and Science leads to a bachelor of science or a bachelor of arts degree. The curriculum provides excellent preparation in chemistry, along with a wide breadth of liberal arts coursework. Students from other colleges within the university may pursue chemistry as an additional major. When pursuing a chemistry major, the undergraduate student must meet all general and breadth requirements of their college, along with the chemistry major requirements.

To learn more about the chemistry major, visit us at the annual Majors Fair held every October. We also hold an annual Chem Connections Event every fall semester after the Majors Fair. New students are encouraged to attend Chem Connections on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 (4:30 to 6:30 pm) before scheduling an appointment with the chemistry advisor.

Students can also view the Chemistry Curriculum Guide to learn more about the major. Current UW-Madison students considering the chemistry major are invited to join the prospective chemistry majors email list by completing the form below.
