CHEMISTRY NEWSLETTER IS BACK!
Hello All;
    The Chemistry Newsletter returns today after a 3 month sabbatical. We are planning to put up a “missed events” version by the end of this week, to encapsulate all of the events, publications and other items of departmental importance that occurred during the last three months, as a “web only newsletter”. Please continue to send information for the newsletter to: goldade@chem.wisc.edu.
Thanks - Bruce Goldade - Chemistry Fast Copy Center Manager

PLEASE JOIN THE ACS LOCAL SECTION ON APRIL 22ND FOR THE MADISON MARCH FOR SCIENCE!!!
The ACS section will participate in our local nonpartisan March for Science held in Madison to support efforts in ‘fostering understanding and appreciation of science by the public, the media and policymakers.’  This local march is one of over 400 other March for Science events worldwide that are championing science as a pillar for the advancement of human knowledge, progress and prosperity.
The local section will prepare and hand out signs for the march by the playground in James Madison Park (614 E Gorham St, Madison, WI 53703) from 12:30 pm until the march begins around 1:00 pm.  We need to prepare the signs so please let us know if you will participate and then stop by to pick up a sign and say ‘hello’!  If you would like to march as a group, please stick around the area where we are handing out signs.  We will aim to join the March soon after it gets started.  The march will end at UW Science Hall/Library Mall.  Booths will be set up along Library Mall and State Street Mall beginning around 2 pm, and speakers will begin around 2:30 pm. If there is additional or updated information before the March, it will be posted on the Local Section web site: http://wisconsin.sites.acs.org/.

GSFLC MENTOR AWARD NOMINATIONS
DUE FRIDAY APRIL 14TH

The Graduate Student-Faculty Liaison Committee (GSFLC) is currently accepting nominations for the 2017 Mentor Awards.  The Mentor Awards are meant to recognize graduate students, post-docs, academic staff, and faculty who have had a profound positive impact on the graduate students in the chemistry department.  Any member of the chemistry community who has dedicated time to development, growth, and/or counsel during a graduate student’s career is eligible for nomination.  Up to three awards are given each year depending on participation.  Details concerning how to nominate a mentor and the criteria by which nominations will be judged can be found at the GSFLC's website: http://gsflc.chem.wisc.edu/mentor_awards
This year nominations are due Friday, April 14th by 5:00 P.M. The letters of nomination can be submitted in the GSFLC mailbox on the first floor of Shain Tower.
It is always rewarding to be recognized for hard work and good mentorship.  If somebody in the chemistry community has had an impact on your graduate career and/or that of your peers, I encourage you to consider nominating them for this award.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or any other GSFLC representative.  A list of current representatives can be found on the GSFLC website: http://gsflc.chem.wisc.edu/members
Thanks, Maddy Beasley, GSFLC Representative.
