Bob Hamers Awarded a Wisconsin Distinguished Professorship

It is a great pleasure to report that Bob Hamers has been awarded a Wisconsin Distinguished Professorship through a UW-system-wide competition. This prestigious appointment, approved by the Board of Regents, is for a faculty member with impeccable academic credentials, who also makes a strong economic or industrial contribution to the state of Wisconsin. This is a signal honor---congratulations Bob!

Beth Landis Receives the 2007-2008 Merck Research Laboratories Fellowship

Congratulations to Beth Landis for receiving the 2007-2008 Merck Research Laboratories Fellowship in Analytical/Physical Chemistry! The academic year fellowship is awarded by Merck to an outstanding UW chemistry student doing research in analytical/physical chemistry. Beth will a 3rd year student in the Hamers group. Congratulations, Beth !

FACULTY POSITIONS/TEMPORARY FACULTY/ACADEMIC POSITIONS

Chemistry Department, Western Washington University, Assistant Professor, Chemistry. Three (3) full-time, tenure-track positions beginning September 16, 2008 to be recruited from the following areas: organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry. Candidates with interdisciplinary interests are strongly encouraged to apply. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Duties: Teach general chemistry and undergraduate and graduate courses in field of specialization. Participate in student advisement and departmental committees and activities. Direct student research projects including the presentation and publication of research. Write extramural grant proposals in support of curriculum improvement and research. Qualifications Required: Ph.D. required by time of appointment; Required areas are organic chemistry or inorganic chemistry; Strong record of or potential for effective teaching; Strong record of or potential for scholarship and ability to develop an externally funded research program involving undergraduate and M.S. students. Preferred: Post-doctoral experience. Desired: Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student body is a desired attribute.
